It does mean that it is prepared and developed for low-specification computers.Nonetheless, you can run any application available in the official repositories, as long as your hardware can bear with it.The DE is what makes Lubuntu a lightweight OS, and of course the selected applications too because we make sure to use the lightest applications which are not resource hungry.
Yes, I am aware that I can manually update all of my packages one by one via ppa's, but I have 69 applications that I would have to first check for latest versions of & then add them through their ppa. As you point out, you have complete freedom and control of your system to install newer applications from 3rd party sources, such as a PPA or the upstream developer (but Ubuntu will never force upgrades of newer software onto users of a nice stable older release).Until yesterday, the Xfce 4.12 PPA didn't provide the final Xfce 4.12, but development builds (4.11.x) for the Xfce Panel, Settings xfwm4 and so on.Also, until a few minutes ago, there was a small issue which didn't allow updating xfce4-power-manager.The host OS and guest OSs and applications can communicate with each other through a number of mechanisms including a common clipboard and a virtualized network facility.
Guest virtual machine can also directly communicate with each other if configured to do so.Unfortunately there are no stable Xfce 4.12 packages for Xubuntu 12.04, at least at the time I'm writing this article (there are just a few Xfce 4.11 packages). If for whatever reason you want to revert the changes and downgrade to the Xfce version available in the official Xubuntu repositories, you can use PPA Purge to purge the Xfce 4.12 PPA (using PPA purge, the PPA is disabled and all the packages from that PPA are downgraded to the version available in the repositories).Welcome to Linux Questions.org, a friendly and active Linux Community.
